The Hawaii Education Alliance for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (ExTL) is a partnership between the Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA) and the Hawaii Education Association (HEA).
This 6-day, 6-credit ExTL Associate Program course is designed to develop a cadre of master teachers who will be able to share their innovative, effective teaching practices with their colleagues through the HIDOE’s PDE3 courses. A major outcome of the program is the creation of new professional development courses that will be offered by HSTA to its members through HSTA’s Instruction and Professional Development (IPD) Program. The overarching goal of ExTL is to work collaboratively with HSTA in building a robust, viable professional development program that is initiated, planned and delivered by teachers, for teachers.
Participants will need to go through a selection process before they are chosen for the program. The selection will be done by HSTA, on the basis of:
•The professional development needs and interests of HSTA members;
•Validation of the innovative, effective teaching practice; and
•The alignment of the teaching practice to HSTA’s values and strategic goals.
The deadline for application submission is May 2, 2015 at 5pm HST.
NOTE: Applicants will be notified of HSTA’s decision no later than May 15, 2015 at 5pm HST.”

The Stacy Nishina Business Internship Program supports and enhances the professional roles of teachers by providing teachers with an orientation of today’s 21st century workforce. The internship also focuses on the essential skills/competencies that students will need to possess in order to be successful in college, workplace and citizenship in this ever-evolving 21st century. The program starts with an orientation, teachers then spend three days as an intern for a local business, wrapping up with portfolio writing.
